Self Assessment for Job seekers
Self assessment is key
OVERALL: Self-assessment helps you understand your strengths and
weaknesses, skills and abilities, interests, values, goals, and
aspirations. It improves your comfort level in interviews situations when
you are the topic. It helps you articulate your skills. It helps you plan
your career as knowing where you want to go depends upon knowing where you
are.
|
Benefits: Self-assessment
* Helps identify strengths you can emphasize.
* Identify weaknesses to work on and downplay.
* Helps you articulate achievements, aspirations, and goals to emphasize
your fit with the needs of the organization you would like to work for.
* Builds confidence. You become more aware of what you can contribute to
an employer.
* Makes it easier to answer questions in natural and obvious manners.
* It helps you prepare for interviews and negotiations
* Helps you track skills you need to improve
* Helps you refine career goals, values, and interests.
* Helps you to look at your background from the perspective of an
employer.
* Clarification regarding the next course of actions that you might take
* The most important benefit is knowing yourself and you can now make
appropriate choices.
Self-assessment is very important in preparing for job interviews.
How would you answer these questions?
* What are your greatest strengths?
* What are your weaknesses (and what are you doing about them)?
* Where do you want to be in five years? In ten?
* When was the last time you demonstrated leadership skills?
* How do you feel about teamwork?
* What activities do you get involved in?
* What is your ideal job and why?
|
Did you stumble or answer with confidence and obvious clarity?
Chances are you stumbled on some! What would a recruiter or employer think
of you now ?
Such questions are evaluation/screening tools. The interviewer is looking
for a close match between the needs of the organization and you. This
where self-assessment helps make or break your job interview.
Knowing thyself is the more important aspect in your job hunting and long
term career success.

How to Complete Self-Assessments
Self assessments are self empowering. You are moving from the unknown to
self realizations, you are taking accountability for yourself by
discovering things about yourself that you find interesting and helpful or
discover insights that may surprise you.
· Make it an enjoyable experience:
· Take your time. This is for you, so don’t rush.
· There are no right or wrong answers. Just be honest with yourself.
. Do not choose answers simply because they sound most desirable. This
will reduce accuracy.
Google searches on self assessment will lead you to many interesting self
assessment tools to help determine the right job for yourself!
